Facebook Overkill
What does it do again? Facebook has added a new feature and I have been trying to figure out what exactly this new feature is good for. I found some good answers here: http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Web-Services-Web-20-and-SOA/Facebook-Offers-Realtime-Highlight-Reel-News-Feed-For-The-Homepage-298115/ Clint Boulton does a pretty nice job of explaining what the live news feed feature does and some other additional quieter features that were included with the add on. In short it would appear Facebook is trying to add twitter like functionality. The thing that I find upsetting is that the new “Live News Feed” kind of forces you to use it because now the current updates are not automatically added to the News Feed section. Maybe I have it all wrong.
Frankly I am not convinced it is necessary, but hey I really dont like Facebook that much anyway so whatever. I am pretty convinced that it is evil and way to busy with buttons and the obese features make it clustered and not user-friendly. But that is just my opinion. I know a lot of people really enjoy Facebook so I wouldn’t want to take away anyones joy, but if anyone could explain to me how this live news feed makes my life better, I am all ears.
A letter from the Sec Def of FaceHate
I was looking at my Facebook group me a some of my friends created called “FaceHate”. None of have really had input items for a long time but I was looking at one of the first charter letters. Anyway I found it amusing and I hope you as well. I am sure you will if you use Facebook.
Dear Members, fellow FaceHaters, Patriots, friends,
As newly appointed and self-proclaimed Secretary of Defense, I would like to say I am happy, pleasured, or perhaps orgasmic about this position and all its responsibilities. This is not the case. I am deeply concerned about the welfare of our organization. As a new organization, immediately there is a threat on our hands. A viable threat…One word. This word is a weapon…
Love
Beware. For many a Facetard patron will try to deter your oath and loyalty by reminding you of the shear fact that this is how we are able to communicate. That this is how we are to stay in contact! This is how we were reunited!!!. Do not fall victim. The means in which we are one and together is because we thought of each other, we remember, and WE chose to search out one another and open these channels of LOVE. Facetard did not.
We will remind them that we are not sheep. That we enjoy the pleasures of free coding, html and music. That we are individuals in a society! That if we want a chartruese colored wallpaper, then by God we shall have it. If we want Korn playing in the background, it will happen! If we choose to Poke some one, we do not need to install an App to SUPER POKE them!!
As SecDef it is not just my responsibility to defend this organization and it’s members, but also to defend the rights and freedoms of the poor lost souls who have been entrapped within the confines of Facetard. I ask that all of you help in this process. Educate. Defend. Honor.
Thank You
Darron, Facehate SecDef
5 reasons why Facebook sucks
Ok – I know this is getting old but I had to post this one. I do enjoy pointing out why FaceBook is the devil, but I will promise to keep it to the minimum from now on. Apparently a lot of people really enjoy FB, I am just not one of them. With that being said this dude brings up some good points…
Bring on the Hate
Hatebook is an anti-social utility that disconnects you from all the things YOU HATE.
Face Fail
Why Facebook will eventually fail
A blogpost at GigaOm covers some of the iterations that social networks on the internet went through over the years. Pretty interesting, though incomplete. The author also warns that it is dangerous to predict the next wave, based on the past, and I’m not even going to try.
JULIAN SMITH – 25 Things I Hate About Facebook
Ok – This guy outlines (using the most recent Face Gimmick exactly what I have been tring to articulate. Well done dude.
