5 reasons why Facebook sucks
Ok – I know this is getting old but I had to post this one. I do enjoy pointing out why FaceBook is the devil, but I will promise to keep it to the minimum from now on. Apparently a lot of people really enjoy FB, I am just not one of them. With that being said this dude brings up some good points…
Letter to SciFi not SyFy
Ok, maybe I am getting out of control or maybe I need to get off my ass and pick up my camera and start shooting again. Recently after reading an article on www.reuters.com I had a reaction and I sought out the SciFi website and clicked on the contact us with your suggestions. Here is what I sent them…
Seriously guys are you serious? Ok I can understand maybe two arguments you make for changing the SciFi channel name but I personally feel you will fail if you try to change the program genre. Wrestling? I thought the cable box was screwed up at first, but wrestling? What’s next – Simon Cowell and company?
Personally I think you will fail with this re-branding but I will keep my fingers crossed for you. But let’s just say if you take away stuff like Twighlight zone marathons then I am so done with you.
Why don’t you put more science fiction in sci fi instead of watering it down? Embrace what you are, its o.k. we don’t mind. Why don’t you add shows like Alfred Hitchcock movies, tech review shows like from Cnet and video game reviews? Computer technology reviews and shows like that. You know often the History channel embraces science fiction more than you guys do. They have UFO show and you have ummm wrestling. I could go on and on what would be good for your channel but at this point I think it would be in fact pointless.
One parting shot – its March 18th I live in NC and I am looking at the program guide for my local Time Warner cable. Its 7 p.m. right now on SCIFI is Ghost Hunters – and on the History Channel same time slot is … UFO hunters WTF – if you don’t know what that stands for I will spell it out for you What the Frak!

Now what did I read to make me write them with my thoughts you ask? This is the full article below.

NBC Universal-owned cable network will become SyFy starting in June.
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – After 16 years, Sci Fi Channel is changing its name … unless you say it aloud.
The phonics-friendly moniker is part of a network-wide rebranding campaign that has been in the works for more than a year. It’s an evolution that also includes a new logo and tagline — “Imagine Greater” — and will be announced Monday at the network’s “upfront” presentation to advertisers for the new programing season.
The changes attempt to address longtime marketing goals at the network, as well as practical challenges that have stemmed from using a generic term as a brand name.
”We love being sci-fi, and we’re still embracing that,” said network president Dave Howe on Friday. “But we’re more than just space and aliens and the future — the three things most people think of when they think of ’sci fi.’”
Though at first blush more fantastical-looking than the current name, “SyFy” aims to telegraph that the channel is a unique destination without being so different from the current title as to lose the network’s core familiarity.
”What this does is hopefully give us the best of both worlds,” Howe said. “You keep the heritage, but also open up to a broader range of content.”
For years the network has sought ways to expand its image beyond its signature male-skewing space operas such as “Stargate” and “Battlestar Galactica.” The network will unveil the branding campaign this summer along with the premiere of “Warehouse 13,” a series about two FBI agents who hunt down paranormal objects.
Next year’s “Battlestar” prequel “Caprica,” which is a terrestrial drama rather than an outer-space adventure, will further support this brand expansion, an effort that began on the programing side a few years ago with the launch of drama “Eureka,” about a town of geniuses.
The pragmatic aspect of the change is that from a business affairs standpoint, the network’s genre-as-title has long been cumbersome.
”We’re going to have upwards of 50 Sci Fi Channels in various territories, and yet you cannot trademark ‘Sci Fi’ anywhere in the world,” Howe said. “A new logo design would not solve that particular challenge. We needed a brand name that was own-able, portable and extendable.”
Howe knows some fans will dislike the change and see Syfy as a rejection of the network’s core viewership. More than most channels, Sci Fi has an intense relationship with its audience. Clashes are unavoidable to some degree when you combine a network making businesses-minded decisions with a genre that has some of the most passionate and outspoken fans around.
”Our core audience will use it an opportunity to question our motives — they always do,” Howe said. “But what we’re embracing is the total sci-fi landscape — fantasy, paranormal, action-adventure, mystery … it’s imagination-based entertainment.”

Face Fail
Why Facebook will eventually fail
A blogpost at GigaOm covers some of the iterations that social networks on the internet went through over the years. Pretty interesting, though incomplete. The author also warns that it is dangerous to predict the next wave, based on the past, and I’m not even going to try.
WHAT THE FRAK!
Battlestar Galactica (BSG) is an awesome show which I a have been devoted to for the past few years.
But…
I am saddened to see this series come to an end.
…Season Finale Friday March 20…
When I was young I remember watching Battlestar Galactica with Lorne Greene. The original series which I guess some call the classic Battlestar Galactica was cool at the time. But compared to the current Battlestar Galactica version, which is called BSG (reimagined), there is no comparison. I mean there are too many differences to name. Starbuck is a chick now, the ships are better and the weapons more believable. There is just more of everything that’s good. What is not on BSG reimagined is cheesy hair, bad costumes and horrible story plots. There is one caveat though. The old school cylons were pretty awesome.
If you have never seen BSG reimagined then look at this 13 min video below from SciFi.com
It will tell you just about everything you need to know up to this past season. Its called of course “Catch the
frak up
If you have not seen it in a while and just need to catch up to this season you can check this one out. But hurry the season finale is tomorrow. What the frak am I going to watch now? I have no frakkin idea.
Awesome song explaining the differnce between Battlestar Galactica LG style and BSG reimagined…

JULIAN SMITH – 25 Things I Hate About Facebook
Ok – This guy outlines (using the most recent Face Gimmick exactly what I have been tring to articulate. Well done dude.
A letter to Apple
I am a new iPhone owner. Well I have been for 3 months anyway. This phone is great and I am not an Apple fan. Anyway, back to the point at hand. The iPhone is great, but I have one issue with it. I decided to write to Apple and tell them about my one minor problem with their device. It took a good 15 minutes for me to find the comments section on their website which was cause for some frustration. I just decided I would like to share my letter to Apple. Maybe some of you agree, who knows.
Dear Apple People,
I love this device! Ok let me say some things for background purposes. I am not a fan of Apple. I am anti-Apple. I will never own a Mac or any other product including iPods etc…I have bought numerous Apple products for my loved ones, iMacs, iPods, and on and on – but I would never ever consider a Mac for myself and never will BUT I decided that after extensive research that the iPhone is something that I could bend the rules for. And I have not been disappointed. This is a great product. I can honestly say that I feel that a two year contract with AT&T is no problem; this device is a joy to use. It has far exceeded my expectations. I would expect nothing less from Apple (even though I don’t use I recognize it is quality stuff
Anyway there is one thing that this phone is missing to make it fit for adult use. Sorry for the length here but I have to set it up for context. I have always used windows CE handhelds. And I thought I could trade in my iPaq for the iPhone but sadly I cannot just yet. Why you ask – “cut and paste” – there is no cut and paste on the iPhone. Now you may not feel that this is important but if you search the internet you will see it is in fact important. If I am going to do anything serious like update my webpage, use large amounts of data I don’t want to replicate by hand or grab text from a webpage I bust out my iPaq. Now I ask my kids about the cut and paste issue with the iPhone and they don’t care – why – because they don’t have jobs. They could care less about cut and paste. The iPhone has lots of stuff the kids enjoy, such as an iPod to listen to all their angst filled music, you can watch videos and play goofy app games. So while I love my iPhone, I feel it is not quiet yet ready for adult (grown people) use. It does everything I want except when it comes to work. It’s useless when I want to use it for work for the simple fact I can’t cut and paste. So until you add this one feature I will continue to deploy my adult device the trusty iPaq windows mobile device with the ability to move mountains of text with the click of a stylus. But I will wait patiently (you have 2 years) to retire my iPaq. I am sad to say if it’s not on the iPhone at the end of my contract I will have to get an adult phone. But I am hoping and yes maybe even praying a little that you do add this feature. You guys can figure anything out, your Apple so come on – do it – do it now. It’s really getting old carrying around two devices when clearly one is so much cooler than the other except for one tiny but very important feature. Regards – John New fan (pending two year contract and cut and paste)
